Tanzania is an East African country on the Indian Ocean. It has a beautiful coastline, fascinating history and stunning scenery. Tanzania is known as Africa's prime game viewing country with its highlight being the Serengeti - meaning "endless plains". The island of Zanzibar is separated from the mainland by a 22 mile channel. This beautiful spice island has exotic beaches and a rich cultural history.

Neighbouring Tanzania to the north are Uganda and Kenya, to the west are Burundi, Rwanda and Congo and to the south are Mozambique, Zambia and Malawi. Tanzania has an area of 945,166 square kilometres (64,929 square miles) and is three times the size of Mexico or four times the size of Britain and the size of Kenya and Uganda combined. Tanzania is home to Africa's best-known lakes - Lake Victoria in the north, Lake Tanganyika in the west, and Lake Nyasa in the south. It is also home to Mount Kilimanjaro. Standing at 19,340ft (5,895m) tall Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest point on the continent.


Tanzania has a tropical climate along the coast and different climate variations as you move inland. It has a population of over 40 million people and 120 local languages with the official languages being Kiswahili and English

Tanzania is very rich in natural resources - diamonds, gold and the rare tanzanite.
